Song of the Week - #18 - "Make Us One"
(Make Us One is part of a new project by producer Hal Sacks. You can learn more about it at www.freshstartmusic.com)
The need for real love and unity within the body of Christ is great. What our unity speaks to our world is of greatest importance. In John 13:35, Jesus declares, “By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” In John 17:21, Jesus prays, “I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one…that the world will believe you sent me.” These verses astound me! They tell us that the way the world will know that we are Christians AND the way everyone will know that Jesus is the Messiah, sent from the Father, is by seeing that the followers of Jesus love one another. There is no more crucial or powerful witness to a lost and dying world than our love for one another. My prayer for this song is that someone will be inspired to forgive; someone would choose to love.
I wrote Make Us One while attending an event called “Together L.A.” I was inspired by the large number of churches from all over Los Angeles, representing different races, nationalities, church cultures, and backgrounds gathering for the purpose of worshiping our God together and uniting in His Name for his purposes.
Special thanks to Hal Sacks for inviting me to be a part of the Make Us One project and creating this beautiful video. Thanks to Mandie Pinto and Kesha Shantrell for bringing their vocal gifts with such beauty, excellence, and passion. To my brothers and sisters at Fellowship Monrovia, I loved getting to be a part of this with you, co-laboring for Jesus together. Thank you!
Ephesians 4:2-6 nlt “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love. Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace. For there is one body and one Spirit, just as you have been called to one glorious hope for the future. There is one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all, in all, and living through all.
Colossians 3:12-15 nlt Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.
