Living with our eyes and hearts set on heaven can give us perseverance through suffering and trial in this earthly life. Our God's ways and thoughts are not the same as ours’. He sees and knows what we cannot see and know. Because He is good, all His ways lead to freedom and life. Let us trust His heart, His character, and His Word! May we persevere to the end.
This song was originally written to support a sermon series from James 1 by Pastor Wayne Cordeiro of New Hope Church in Oahu, HI. Thank you Wayne for allowing me to contribute.
I would like to add that one week ago today, a very dear friend, and my daughter Eileen’s best friend, Jessie Wilson passed away suddenly. This has been an unspeakably difficult week, yet the lyrics of this song have become our hearts’ cry in the midst of this deep pain:
“We won’t give up, we won’t give in We’ll carry on to the very end, We’ll stand our ground All through Your pow’r It’s for Your glory, we will live”
James 1:3,4, 12 NIV “...you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything...Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.”
Hebrews 13:14 NLT “For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
Heb. 10:36 NLT “Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.”
Heb. 12:2 NIV “…fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
John 16:33 NLT “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Revelation 22:12 NIV “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done.”
Genesis 15:1 “After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.””
James 1:19, 20, 22 NIV “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, because human anger does not produce the righteousness that God desires...Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
Isaiah 55:8,9 NLT ““My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
