Song of the Week 2019 – #18 – “Greater” (feat. Leah Ashton)
This song is a declaration of an astounding truth of Christian faith... the God of the universe lives inside of us!
1 John 4:4 declares - “Greater is He who is IN me, than he who is in the world.” It’s hard to fathom but it is the promise of God’s Word. The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead is literally closer than the breath we breathe, giving us the desire and power to do his will. Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” It’s true that we are broken and imperfect people but we are also new creations - victorious in Christ! His power is available to overcome, be transformed, and do his works on the earth. These verses should give us a sense of boldness to believe and act so that seemingly impossible things will become reality for His glory.
Lord, remind us that we don’t have to live in fear and defeat! May we daily experience Your power within to love, forgive, resist temptation, advance, and stand firm - all for your glory.
Lastly, the music of this song is bold and energetic. My hope is that it can be a fierce, defiant, and helpful prayer for us as we daily live by the Spirit against the enemy’s schemes, traps, and lies!
Rom. 8:11a NLT “The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you....”
Phil. 2:13 NLT “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.”
Ez. 36:27 NIV “And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”
Eph. 3:16 NIV “I pray that out of the riches of His glory He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being,...”
Eph. 1:19, 20 NLT “I also pray that you will understand the incredible greatness of God’s power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms.”
2 Cor. 12:9, 10 NLT “But He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Is. 54:17 NLT “But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
1 John 3:3 NIV “All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure.”
Rom 8:2 NLT "And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.”
Rom. 6:12-14 NLT “Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires. Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God. Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.”
1 Cor. 3:16 “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?”
